Maria de los A. Muniz, ITA Project Director

Maria de los A. Muniz is a retired ESL teacher from the Puerto Rico Department of Education. She has a B.A. in Language Arts, with a major in ESL. In addition to her teaching experience in Puerto Rico public schools, Ms. Muniz has taught conversational English in a social community project to adult non-native speakers to enhance their job and educational opportunities.

“The children call me grandma. I could say that this has been the most beautiful experience I have had. I will be their grandma for a long time, because they have filled my heart. I think I did it. I really did it with them.”

Raquel Gonzalez, ITA Teacher, Julio Selles Sola School

Raquel Gonzalez has a B.A. in Hispanic Studies and a second concentration in Spanish Language, secondary level. Prior to graduation, Raquel served as an ITA tutor in the Julio Selles Sola ITA English Literacy program. She is also active as a summer camp leader and motivational speaker for children and adolescents in community programs.

“I definitely think the children are the future. To know that I can trust this new generation not only with their well-being, but also with my well-being, it’s a beautiful experience.”

Stephanie Gomez, ITA Teacher, Carmen D. Ortiz School

Prior to assuming the role of team leader for the Carmen D. Ortiz ITA tutors, Stephanie Gomez served as an ITA tutor in the Julio Selles Sola after-school program.

Sonia Ramos, ESL Teacher, Carmen D. Ortiz School

Sonia Ramos, ESL teacher retired from the Puerto Rico Department of Education, has been working as a volunteer English teacher at the Aguas Buenas school.
